Coaching for a few gold bars and a star in Seattle

I had a lovely surprise today.I have coached Maggie on and off for 8 years-Each time she has changed her job and when she has been experiencing difficulties with a bully of a boss or a big presentation.Anyway she presented at a conference in Seattle this week for her firm ( large US Investment bank). When she was asked what was the secret of her career success .-( she was one of the first women to get to Vice President in her part of the industry) she mentioned me. She apparently said that having someone outside of her workplace who challenged her to look at herself, have confidence in herself and reflect on her approach to things had been worth its weight in gold. Now I am not petite- so next week she will be getting a new invoice for my weight in gold minus what she has paid me over the years.

The really lovely thing about this snippet is- Maggie didn’t tell me. Someone else I coach works for another financial services provider and he e mailed me to say "I saw your name today on a power point screen with a star around it today".Thinking he had been taking hallucinogenic drugs and in fear of his safety at work I rang him. He called back to tell me the story. How kind people are who want to go out of their way to share nice news. Have you shared any nice compliments about another lately?- give it a try it’s infectious!

There’s a gremlin in my TV. I have been reading lots about manifestation recently. I have used Esther and Jerry Hicks work and Wayne Dyer’s exercises with clients for a while. Yet I hadn’t really appreciated the true power of manifesting until this week . I always visualise a parking space when I go somewhere.  (The parking angel takes care of the space outside of my house so I only have to ask him to get it ready when I am half a mile from home). However, I have been less than successful with London underground of late.

Last week there were leaves on the line because it had been raining.I had been thinking all the way to the station "any excuse for a delay. I bet there are problems with the line because of the rain".Well the leaves and crowds meant I was 30 minutes late for a meeting, Then yesterday it hailed like Hades and there was water dripping through the tube onto my nice suede jacket. Today was the final straw. I left a meeting in Piccadilly and had to get to Kings Cross. I was stuck in a tunnel for 20 minutes with a bloke who was clearly nervous so he whistled "Danny Boy" for a full 10 minutes, them we got to just outside of Kings Cross to be told there was a signal problem and we would be reversing back to Russell street. I walked from there and of course as I left the station the heavens opened and I had left my umbrella on the train. So arriving for my next meeting soaked, irritated and late I was delighted to be met by smiling sue as she will forever be called. She gave me tea, and -a hairdryer. How is that for a PA service? The woman I was meeting (Sue’s boss) insisted that all wet visitors be offered a towel and the use of the Company shower room with hairdryer- now that’s what I call looking after guests.

A Vintage Spider and sacked by a client!

Welcome dear readers. Those of you who know me will know that once I start writing I get into full flow.
Well this is just a little introduction to welcome you to the new blog. For those who don’t know me Here’s a story about my career coaching and personal coaching work.
I have been working with a client today who really sums up what my work is about. Jer came to me 4 months ago with a
list of things he wanted to change about his career, his relationship with his brother, his relationship with himself and his financial situation( or rather lack of money)
The key to helping Jer was getting to the root of it all- these things were all connected but he couldn’t work out why and what to do about it by himself.
He had heard about me from a work colleague who allegedly said "Go and see Marie, if she can’t get you back on track within 3-4 months I will pay your coaching fees"
Now this mate of his has a bob or two and really cares about his work colleague so I knew he was being genuine and I knew that it was his way of saying "if you think you can’t afford it- you can".
